Small
Towns all across America are losing their character and
becoming faceless expanses of pavement and traffic congestion.
Do you really want this for Hillsborough?
Hillsborough is undergoing tremendous development due partly to our advantageous location. Just seven years ago, the Hillsborough Master Plan was created. It states that questionnaires and the two-day long Community Profile (in which hundreds of residents participated) showed that people want to maintain the friendly small town character of our town. We believe that it is possible to do that - to preserve the unique character of our town - and yet to expand commercial growth. To this end, we have worked in a number of areas.
-
Kept residents informed of public hearings relating to growth.
-
Presented information at Chamber of Commerce workshops on the direction of growth in our town.
-
Studied and presented to the Planning Board the issues surrounding the possibility of a Wal-Mart coming to town.
-
Sponsored a warrant article to limit retail buildings to 75,000 sq. ft.
-
Sponsored informational meetings to help residents become informed on growth issues.
-
Promoted conservation easements and other methods to preserve rural acreage.
We welcome you to join us in the effort to preserve our small-town quality of life through wise growth. |
